The Taiwan Medical Association’s position on physician participation in capital punishment

Following is the Taiwan Medical Association’s position on physician participation in capital punishment and human organ/tissue transplantation from executed prisoners:

According to meeting conclusion, the Taiwan Medical Association affirms that it is unethical for physicians to participate in capital punishment and transplant organ/tissue from executed prisoners. The Taiwan Medical Association is neither involved in any step of execution process, nor in removing and transplanting organs from executed prisoners. We have never received any information from our members regarding this issue. The Taiwan Medical Association strictly insists on the WMA resolution on Physician Participation in Capital Punishment, WMA Statement on Human Organ Donation and Transplantation, and WMA Statement on Human Tissue for Transplantation. It is our duty to call on our members that any participation in capital punishment and organ/tissue transplantation as stated above are unethical.
